Workshop Description

During this two-part immersion, we will work with the breath in its subtle forms, with kriyas (cleansing practices), pranayama, and anapasati (observation of respiration) meditation; and in its more gross form, the asana practice.

The asana practice will be an ashtanga-based guided class, focusing on key poses and their preparations. Prepare to move slowly, with intention, awareness, and kindness.  When doing the physical postures, we keep our awareness on the breath -- synchronizing the breath and the movement.  It is key to maintain the breath steady and even throughout the practice, especially during transitions and while attempting more challenging postures. If we allow the body to remain in a state of inner calm and homeostasis through the breath, then we can receive the more subtle benefits of the practice. Internalising this approach will empower us to face any stressful or challenging situations in our daily lives with the same inner calm and steadiness. We find ourselves better able to cope with any ups and downs in our lives.

About Summer Dien

Summer is trained in the classical pranayama practices of the Khaivalyadham lineage and in the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa system. She studies extensively with her teachers Sri OP Tiwariji and Paul Dallaghan in the areas of pranayama and asana.

Drawing upon nearly a decade of practice and teaching, Summer has a liberal, non-dogmatic approach and believes in using the body in the most efficient and intelligent way possible. While non-traditional in some ways, she adheres to the general principles of the Ashtanga Vinyasa method. She advocates modifying the poses to suit the student’s current needs and abilities.

Summer is committed to the path of yoga and dedicates her life fully to supporting and uplifting others by passing on the ancient yogic practices of asana and pranayama.
