We are hosting Teresa Richard (Kshama Yoga) on Sunday 28th October for a one-day training - "Deconstructing Yoga Cikitsa: The Ashtanga practice for not (yet) Ashtangis".  This immersion is ideal for yoga practitioners and students who feel lost in Ashtanga or Vinyasa-based studio classes to grasp the foundations of the practice; as well as for teachers who are not from a traditional Ashtanga background to understand and use the asanas and transitions with confidence.

Program description:

Have you ever experienced being lost or confused in an "Ashtanga" (including Mysore or Led) class or in other dynamic flow aka “vinyasa” yoga practices? The way asanas, vinyasas and adjustments are used in popular studio classes is often misunderstood. By taking a big step back and through many hours of self-practice and training with numerous amazing teachers (including David Swenson, Peter Sanson, Bruce Mackay, Rachel Grey, Damien de Bastier and Andrea Drottholm), Teresa Richard established a renewed perspective of the practice.  Having re-shaped her foundation and understanding of Ashtanga, it has become the daily practice that she takes with her wherever she travels in the world.

Come to this 4-hour practical immersion to find answers to your (often unasked) questions about this method, and get feedback from an honest, fresh and unconventional point-of-view.  From a teacher who has had many of her prejudices and ideas about Ashtanga debunked over the years, you can expect some new and interesting reasons to give Ashtanga another try.

Continuing Education Units (CEU) applies for existing yoga instructors.

About Teresa Richard (Kshama Yoga)
Leading a nomadic life, teaching and living “wherever she lays her mat” Teresa is a Yoga Alliance certified teacher in Hatha and Yin although Ashtanga has become her main practice. Originally from Spain and curious by nature, she integrates into her practice and teaching various techniques and approaches she has learnt from the many great teachers she follows in her travels: from somatic movement and anatomy to Eastern philosophy, massage, Reiki, and of course, Ashtanga.

She sees Yoga as individual experience. She aims to guide and encourage every student to find their own path and practice. Her love for the Ashtanga tradition grew slowly and unexpectedly from her earlier resistances. She knows from her own experience there’s a lot of misunderstanding about this quite complete and holistic technique. Yin Yoga is her other main practice where she reconnects with body awareness, soothe the mind and balance an active practice.

She breaks down techniques with grace and a down-to-earth sense of humour making them accessible and useful, allowing the practitioner to enjoy and understand the practices and other teachers to be comfortable facilitating them.

*Note: This weekend workshop series will be held at Yoga In Common (nearest MRT station is Farrer Park). Mats and props are provided.  Just bring a pen and notebook for taking your notes!
